What Is Christmas?

Updated: Feb 14, 2022

This is a time to be in awe. This is a time for reminding ourselves of the miracle of the manger. This. Is. Christmastime!

The world drives a message at this time of year that has very little to do with what Christmas is really about. So what is Christmas?

The magnitude of Christ's humility and servanthood, which we've talked about in the last couple of weeks, is staggering. This is the Creator of the Universe, the most powerful being that has ever existed, or will ever exist, became a man. The Son of God became the Son of Man. The Creator became the created. It says in Philippians 2 that Jesus, Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

I don't believe that Jesus was financially poor on this earth. There are plenty of references to Him being provided for, the gifts from the Wise Men were surely enough to set them up for life. Think about it; Myrrh, Frankincense, Gold! But, He was poor in terms of where He had come from and His position as Creator of the Universe. He became 'poor' because He gave up His position as King so that He might serve us, so that He might save us! Wow! We must never forget what it's really about folks. Nor must we ever lose the wonder of the miracle of Christmas and the Greatest Gift the world has ever known; Jesus. If you haven't seen it already, we encourage you to watch our Christmas Special from 2020. It really is a wonderful reminder of what Christmas is all about. We wish you a very merry and blessed Christmas and a prosperous and Happy New Year. From all of us at Upstream, Merry Christmas!
