In our current series, Restoring Foundations, we are discovering biblical truths about 5 fundamental realities that affect every aspect of our lives. This week, we are starting to look at Reality #4, Liberty, God and Government.
From the beginning of time, God established families to become nations and He set their boundaries and historical timelines in place. He ordained government in order to secure and protect our God-given rights as well as to enforce His law, to restrain and punish evil and praise what is good.
'and hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:' Acts 17:26-27 KJV
A human right arises from a person’s status as God’s image bearer and is an entitlement to freedom from harm caused by others. Our rights come from God, therefore nothing man does can nullify those rights. As individuals under God, we have the power to choose how we will fulfill God’s purpose for our lives, as long as our actions do not infringe on our duty to God or on the freedom other image bearers enjoy. Unfortunately, there is much about today’s government that has lost sight of these facts. Join us next week as we go deeper into understanding God’s purpose for the institution of government and the rights He has given us.
Blessings,
